History: British North America; Canada: A Changing Society

Art: Drama and Dance

Explore the achievements of Canadian inventor Alexander Graham Bell and the contributions he made to society in this exciting programme! Through interactive tours of the historic houses, drama, and reading and writing activities, students will gain an understanding of the influences and events that fostered Mr. Bell's invention of the telephone. Students will analyse competing claims to the invention of the telephone, culminating in a mock court session to present their arguments for and against Alexander Graham Bell as the inventor of the telephone.

Habitat Homestead

Grades JK to 6

Offered in May and June only

Spend a morning, afternoon or full day at the Bell Homestead exploring the natural environment around the site in a fun series of activity stations. Activities include a tour of the historic houses, focusing on resource uses; plant and animal identification; baking in the historic kitchen; and making a take-home craft. This programme can accommodate up to 160 students in a full day and up to 80 in a half day.

Sense & Sensibility

Grades JK to 6

Offered in May and June only

Spend a day at the Bell Homestead exploring the senses in a series of activity stations around the site. Activities will include a tour of the historic houses; an archaeological dig; baking in the historic kitchen; and making a take-home craft. This programme can accommodate up to 160 students in a full day. This programme can also be booked as a half day programme. Contact the education coordinator for more details.

A Bell Family Celebration

Social Studies: Traditions and Celebrations

Have you ever wondered how the holidays were celebrated before on-line shopping and gift cards? How did some traditions start? Join us at the Bell Homestead for a Bell family celebration! Tour Melville House and see its halls decked for Christmas. Bake some Hogmanay cookies in the kitchen! Share your holiday traditions with us! Make a Cape Breton-inspired craft! This programme is a half day programme and can accommodate up to 60 students.
